About "Streets of Gold"

This is the first Gospel song I ever wrote....in Nashville almost 30 years ago. We lived in a condo and I couldn't sing without disturbing the neighbors, so, I would drive around singing almost every night after supper. One night God gave me the song.  I sang it into my hand-held recorder and rushed home to write it down.  I sang it my daughter Courtney when I tucked her into bed that night.

Lyrics

Well I heard the preacher say

Walk the straight and narrow way

That leads to eternal life

Keep trusting in the Lord

And you’ll see the great reward

When you’re welcomed to that city in the sky

Streets of gold

Streets of gold

Home sweet heavenly home

We’ll be with Jesus then

We’ll walk along with Him

We’ll be walking on streets of gold

Then the people said, “Amen!”

Tell it all again

Tell us ‘bout that wonderful place

Where there’ll be no death and pain

And we’ll never cry again

And we’ll look upon our Savior’s face

Streets of gold

Streets of gold

Home sweet heavenly home

We’ll be with Jesus then

We’ll walk along with Him

We’ll be walking on streets of gold

When the choir began to sing

“Love Lifted Me”

I began to see the light

Streets of gold

Streets of gold

Home sweet heavenly home

We’ll be with Jesus then

We’ll walk along with Him

We’ll be walking on streets of gold

Oh, there’ll be no death and pain

And we’ll never cry again

We’ll be walking on streets of gold

From the real Author:

Matthew 7:14

But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Matthew 25:21

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

Revelation 21:21

The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.

Isaiah 25:8

He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces;  he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth.  The Lord has spoken

.

Revelation 21:4

‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
